THE VORTEX PRO LEVELLING KIT

Mounting a scope is a fairly regular job for many of us. We have a couple of things to consider – eye-relief and setting the scope level to the rifle.

Eye relief is a bit of a personal thing – which can vary from shooter to shooter but as long as we don’t get wacked by having too little, it’s not too difficult to sort out.

When I mounted my first scope – some 35 years ago – I was advised to use the pumb-line method to level it – you hang a weight on a piece of string – which automatically gives you a reference for the vertical bit of your crosshair – providing it’s not windy – it works.

Now, I tend to rely on a couple of cheap cylindrical bubble levels – place one on the Pic rail and the other on the elevation turret of the scope. This works OK but sometimes it’s difficult to accurately see the bubble sat on the Pic rail and that’s assuming you’ve got clearance between the rail and the underside of the scope. I’m sure you’ve come up with your own similar method.

However, Fox Firearms just handed me this Vortex levelling kit and, as I was about to mount a scope that very day I gave it a go.

The kit contains a small square-section bubble – easier to drop onto your scope’s turret than my cylindrical ones – and a very nifty level which mounts on your Pic rail via a clever spring-clip bracket. It’s very slim so it should fit between underside of your scope and rail even if the clearance is minimal.

It actually drops in the PIc rail grooves.

Here I’m using it to mount a Leupold 36BR scope on my benchgun.

An Allen key is supplied which can be used to adjust the bubble level in the Pic rail bracket.

OK, it’s not going to change the world but it does what it says on the box and it makes scope mounting/levelling uber-simple.
