Ever the innovators, Third Eye Tactical have now combined their excellent Unimount setup with both an extra Picatinny rail to mount accessories and the long-range field shooters second most desired feature – an Angle Cosine Indicator (ACI).
As well as the integral bubble-level built into the Unimount to iron out canting of the gun horizontally, the ACI add-on immediately gives shooters the required angle data to make serious up and downhill shots with accuracy. Degrees are one thing but with the cosine of the angle marked instead, shooters are left with a simple percentage calculation to allow for the effective horizontal distance the bullet would travel and the relevant sight setting.
If a 30 degree uphill shot were to be taken at 500 yards, the gun when pointed towards said target would be inclined 30 degrees. The ACI being setup precisely on the gun’s longitudinal axis automatically rotates into position and would indicate readout `87`, which is the cosine of 30 degrees. I won’t bore you with the high school geometry but all you now do is multiply the 500 yards by 0.87 to give a figure of `435 yards`, which is the distance you set your sights to. The ACI can be bought new with any Unimount or added onto your existing model with five-minutes on the Allen keys, same for the front Picatinny rail for laser, IR illuminator or torch accessories.
The second new feature is nothing more complicated than an aluminium `wedge` but a beautifully simple concept. New Unimounts are machined with a central groove cut into the rail between the two rings and when scope mounting, sliding in the wedge guarantees the underside of the scope’s saddle will be exactly parallel with the mount, therefore the Picatinny rail and hence the gun.
By sliding it out as the ring screws are gently tightened there is no need to `eyeball` the setup or use feeler gauges any more. The wedge is available in three sizes to accommodate all scope saddle shapes, sizes and ring heights as well as 30/34/35mm tubes. Inclination of 0-40 MOA can also be specified with total weight of 298gr. The rest of the mount remains as before, six bolts per ring, each ring being 26mm wide with edges chamfered to prevent any ring marks and very little torque required to hold the scope rube solidly in place. Available in two lengths, multiple ring heights and sizes, it will fit onto any Picatinny or Weaver rail and the small bubble bonded into the rear underside guarantees a cant-free shot. The bold orange ACI indicator needle rotates smoothly without hesitation and stands out clearly against the white drum. Marked +/- `26`, this indicates the cosine of shot angles of up to 75 degrees up and downhill.
Everything is finished with a matt-black hard anodised coating although Cerakoting is now coming online for all Third Eye Tactical’s products, offering a wide choice of colours to match your firearm.
